Tai Chi Tid Bits

Tai Chi is a martial art form
that originated in China
thousands of years ago. Chi (chee) is
translated to mean energy and teaches a focus on deep breathing and very
slow movements. The six principles of
Tai Chi are a good format to achieve holistic wellness:
Slow down -
moving at the slowest speed possible is way for the body to gain
awareness.
Breathe deep -
bring in good oxygen and breathe deep into the belly, then follow with a
long slow exhale.
Natural
movements - based on movement from cranes and birds interacting, Tai Chi
movement enforces good body mechanics for fall prevention and avoiding
injury to joints.
Connectedness -
the graceful movement of Tai Chi is a result of each action having a
connected re-action. As in nature
the connection of summer, fall, winter and spring, or the movement of the
ocean waves flowing in and out.
Rooted - is
symbolic of an old, strong tree that remains strong after 100's of
years. The strength gained in the - half-squat motion of Tai Chi is a good quadriceps and hamstring
strengthener and as one gains physical strength there is a gain in
self-confidence.
Balance - is the
basis for acquiring good health and living life to the fullest. Build on a firm foundation and then move
with the flow.
